Stress and Your Health

Stress and your health go hand in hand.

Any change that you experience in your normal day to day life can be described as stress. Contemplating a raise at work is stress, just as much as worrying about losing your job. The tragedy of losing a loved one can create stress just as much as the news of becoming pregnant can cause stress. It doesn’t matter who you look at or where you look, inevitably you will observe stress.

Stress causes chemical changes within the body especially with regards to hormone levels.

Hormone level swings can then result in even more stress. This makes women more likely to experience stress. Typical hormonal changes during puberty, the menstrual cycle, pregnancy and even the menopause can cause further stress in addition to the pressures of daily modern life.

Any of these occurrences can create difficulties in any woman’s life.

It is believed that stress is the unseen cause of many of today’s health problems. It can a precipitator to many ailments from headaches to sleeplessness. Some people even believe that stress is related to the development of acne. The connection between stress and acne outbreaks has been noted for years and the addition of hormonal imbalance would explain that connection.

The connection between stress and your health is the subject of continued scientific study. They have found that stress causes people to become more susceptible to colds because stress affects the immune system.

Basically, stress can be linked to many things, but not everything that you hear (like it being a total acne cure in itself) isn’t necessarily true. Simply put, stress may be linked directly or indirectly to many health issues.

To completely eradicate stress from your life would be impossible but there steps you can take to control stress.

In the long run your health can be improved by good stress management. For example, develop a healthy lifestyle. Establish and exercise routine and eat right. Believe it or not, this does help. You also can take a “time out” for yourself. Its called: Relaxation!Enjoy yourself for a change, slow down, take a long walk or even take a hot bath. Relaxation as an activity in itself can improve your health by reducing stress. When you relax, your heart rate slows down. So, those of you with high blood pressure - stop and relax for a change.

How do you reduce stress?

There are lots of simple things you can do to reduce stress, even if only for a little while. Find a creative outlet. Pick out a hobby or activity that you enjoy doing. It could be anything from drawing or painting to photography. The point is if you enjoy doing it, chances are your level of stress will drop dramatically. When people have their attention on something they enjoy they are not thinking about those subjects that are the source of stress. Their attention is on the activity at hand and this leads to lower stress levels.

Stress can reduce the quality of your lifestyle and be detrimental to your health. Take time out from the world, even if it is for only an hour.You will reduce your stress levels and improve your overall health if you do this.
