Things You Ought to Know about Procrastination (part 2)
There are tons of other things that you need to know about procrastination. The following are a few of them:
Procrastinators lie to themselves. They often convince themselves that they will be better at doing the job later, when they are in the zone. They also tell themselves that they perform better when working under pressure. Problem is, they end up squandering a very important resource—time. As they keep waiting for the moment that they are ‘in the zone’, they keep getting nearer the deadline. Oftentimes, they end up having very little or no time left to get the task done.
Procrastinators are easily distracted. And most of the time, they are on an active look-out for things to do other than what needs to get done. When trying to research or work on an important project on the Internet, they may be checking their e-mails instead (for the nth time!) or tweaking with their facebook. Most procrastinators who are into this habit are actually trying to escape from negative emotions, like fear of failure.
Procrastination has adverse effects on health. Procrastinating college students are found to acquire more colds, flu and gastrointestinal problems, as they are characterized with weaker immune systems. They are found to be susceptible to insomnia as well.
Procrastination compromises relationships. As responsibilities and commitments are not met, relationships at work and in their private lives are put on peril.
The message is clear. You have to solve your problem. That is, if you want to save what’s left of you.
