New Year Resolution Ideas To Improve Parenthood

At the start of every New Year we sit down and think of New year resolution ideas. We often try to change the negative parts of our life that are causing us the most trouble. We often don’t think of ourselves, but pleasing the people around us who have told us what disgusting habits we have. A lot of the time when we try to stop habits that have become more about pleasing others than ourselves we do not succeed.

If you are a parent then resolutions fitted around your child might be the appropriate direction to go. As long as this is something that you want to change and are not doing it with the sole purpose to please someone else. What you will find is that as you change the way you teach your children other positive changes will take place in your life. The result will be that you are happier in yourself because children are behaving better.

Parents can make changes in the way they care for their children. Think of resolutions that will change the way you parent and plan to spend more time with your children. Even if you do not manage to implement those changes within the year you will at least be on the way to working towards them.

Be careful when choosing the words to speak to your child and try to praise them more. Start to recognise when your child has done well and reward them. Reward charts can be bought or made and help a child gain a sense of worth. Some parents tell children that they are naughty, stupid or bad all the time and this only makes a child feel worse.

Plan to share a physical activity with your child. Go camping or take up a sport together. The benefits are numerous and include, getting fitter, spending more time with children, getting to know your child better and many more.

Learn to set an example because this is how children learn. They look up to parents as role models, but if the parent is doing something wrong then the child will learn to do that as well. If a person is lazy or untidy the child will learn that is all right to throw rubbish on the floor or leave toys out.

This year learn to observe patterns of behaviour within your children and ask yourself if it is something that you are doing. Learn to set an example to your child. Children will commonly learn to act out the behaviour of a parent.

Try to stop bad habits from forming before they even start to become a problem. Set firm boundaries and routines so that your children know what to expect. Most of all have fun and enjoy yourself because it is as much about you than your children.
